Why be excited: A very athletic, versatile linebacker who is a bit undersized but could fit in either outside linebacker or safety. Has good ability to cover and move well but also has a nose for the ball. He has displayed the ability to move well both forward and backward, and also cover running backs in space.
You may not know: Burrell's high school coach, Chuck Reedy, was Clemson's running backs coach from 1978-85, the Tigers' OC from 1986-89, and Baylor's head coach from 1993-96, as well as South Carolina's offensive coordinator in 1998.
How he fits into the depth chart: Clemson will return all three starters at linebacker, but certainly has a need for athletic, quick players who can cover will. If Burrell can pick up Brent Venables' system early, he has a shot at playing time this fall.
