Shaq Lawson

Why be excited: The Tigers look to have picked up another home-grown jewel in Daniel High's Lawson, who during the course of his junior and senior seasons developed into a dominating performer. A dual-sport start (football and basketball) throughout his high school career, Lawson continues to develop physically, adding bulk and strength as he spends the winter and spring working specifically on strength and conditioning for football. He stood out among numerous talented players at his position during post-season all-star games, claiming defensive player of the year honors at both the South Carolina North-South All-Star Game and the Offense-Defense All-America Bowl.

You may not know: He was the leader of a Daniel High defense that posted five consecutive shutouts during the 2011 season.

How he fits into the depth chart: The loss of Andre Branch and Kourtnei Brown at the defensive end positions should give Lawson a chance to compete for immediate time as a backup next fall.
