Why be excited: He's an under-the-radar prospect who could help the Tigers down the road on either side of the ball. He excelled at Charlotte-Latin High as a linebacker, but could also be utilized on offense in a hybrid tight end/fullback role (like Chad Diehl). He's shown himself to be a run-stopping tackler with the ability to get to the football. The Clemson coaching staff made its move for Walls when most schools were still in wait-and-see mode, and it paid off with a solid early commitment.
You may not know: Like Cole Stoudt, Walls comes from an NFL family background. His dad Wesley played 14 seasons as a tight end in the NFL, including a stint with the Carolina Panthers when Tiger defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Kevin Steele was an assistant there.
How he fits into the depth chart: Look for Walls to redshirt his first season, and then to get his first shot as a linebacker.
