Carlos Watkins

Why be excited: When passed out awards for the 2011 Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, Watkins name kept rising to the top among NC's star-studded defensive line: he was honored as Strongest Player, Most Physical Player, Toughest To Block. Watkins has the size and strength to dominate, and comes out of high school already with plenty of experience at taking on, and beating, double teams. He promises to be Clemson's next mainstay defensive tackle.

You may not know: During his junior season at Chase, Watkins played all over the field, and saw action at fullback, wide receiver, tight end, linebacker and on the defensive line. He made 50 tackles, including 29 tackles for loss and 14 sacks on defense. On offense, he caught 11 passes for 237 yards, while also rushing for 270 yards on 65 carries. He also averaged 21 points per game in basketball.

How he fits into the depth chart: Clemson's experience level (or lack thereof) at defensive tackle behind projected starters Tyler Shatley and DeShawn Williams should be an open door for Watkins not to only play, but be a major contributor as a freshman.
