Alex Spence

Why be excited: He's a 4.0 student with a 1350 SAT who was the consensus choice as the state's top kicker. Named South Carolina's 4-A specialist of the year, he showed both range and accuracy. He received his scholarship offer after kicking for Dabo Swinney at camp last summer, and committed on the spot.

You may not know: Spence won the Chris Sailer Camp national competition by making 15 of 16 field goal attempts from 35-50 yards. Sailer, a noted kicking instructor, described him as “an outstanding all-around kicker. He hits a nice, consistent ball off the ground. His field goals are solid, his kickoffs strong, and he shows potential in all three phases and kicks well under pressure.”

How he fits into the depth chart: He'll compete with freshman recruited walk-on Christian Groomes behind Ammon Lakip and Bradley Pinion.
