Given the demands of evaluating personnel and installing new offensive and defensive systems, Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson could hardly have hoped to arrange a more favorable early-season schedule.
Clawson's Deacons will have four games under their belt before they open ACC play.
That's the good news.
The bad news is that Wake Forest will pay for its first-month run-up with back-to-back road games against Louisville and defending national champion Florida State.
The Deacons will have a chance to catch their breath with a mid-season open date, and then will play consecutive home games against Syracuse, Boston College and Clemson - the game against the Tigers a Thursday night affair after an open weekend.
Overall, Wake Forest will have six home games, beginning on Thursday, August 28, against Louisiana-Monroe.
The Deacons will follow with a home game against Gardner-Webb, a trip to Utah State, and a home game against Army.
For the first time since 2005, Wake Forest will play all of its non-conference foes at the front end of the schedule, finishing the season with eight straight ACC games.
The Deacons' two cross-over games with opponents from the Coastal Division will occur in the final two weeks of the regular season. Wake Forest hosts Virginia Tech on Nov. 22 and visits Duke in the season finale on Nov. 29.
- Wake Forest's 2014 opponents were a combined 97-58 in 2013
- Wake Forest will face eight teams that went to a bowl game in 2013, including five bowl champions.
- This will be the seventh time Wake Forest will face a defending national champion.
- Wake Forest will have three-straight home ACC games for the first time since 2004.
