Cornerback D.J. Smith picks Gamecocks over Tigers, Vols

Clemson lost out on one of the final targets for its 2014 recruiting class when cornerback D.J. Smith of Walton High in Marietta, Ga., announced his choice of South Carolina over Clemson and Tennessee Monday night.

Smith, who is ranked No. 88 in the ESPN 300, committed to the Gamecocks on Fox Sports South.

The 6-foot, 185-pound Smith made unofficial visits to Knoxville and Columbia in November,, after visiting Clemson in October. He will make his official visit to South Carolina this weekend.

This is what happens when you lose five in a row to C0ck-a-doodle-do U. Also, add in the recruits that went to FSU, and those 4 losses in two years to these schools is hurting Clemson more than just the standings.

Yes, those hurt. People seem to forget how bad allowing Duke to break their 20+ game ACC losing streak against us 8 years ago hurt though.

Losing to USC is miserable, and FSU as well, but at the same time, while pushing to win against them, we have to remember the progress that has been made.

In addition, there are other factors at play. Some of these kids don't like a school that actually expects attendance.

No big surprise here USC is known for DB and putting them in the NFL. Not sure if attendance has anything to do it, but hey some schools dont mind if you take drugs either.

It is not always about football. Some of these kids won't pick a school that actually expects something of them in the classroom.

It's not hard to win recruits over your rival when they continue to own them. This is too much of an easy sell, even the janitor could do this. P.S. It is and will always be the most important game you will ever play.

Has anyone noticed that our recruiting class is almost complete... and a 4 star DB at USC will likely start, at Clemson he will likely redshirt next year. I do not expect any true freshman will break the 2 deep on our D this year, 2 red shirt freshman may start. any true freshman that decides not to red shirt should enjoy playing on the ST squads.

Some of these Comments about why we lose out to recruits over SC is ridiculous,Of course they will choose SC over us, they are aware that SEC gets more recognition and PRIME TIME TV coverage over ACC, SEC send more guys to NFL over ACC, they are RANKED HIGHER and they have beat us for the last 5 years!!!So sitting around with all of these excuses about the players choosing SC because of them being allowed to fail classes and do drugs (lets not forget Watkins with his pot and Adderall)makes us you look STUPID.What we need to do is fix the real problem with why they decide against us.

You continue to be a scummy phony troll.

That having been said....and a scumbag (YOU)identified....

best wishes to the young man in his career. He chose what he considers the best place to get a good education and play football. I hope he does well.

It is a shame he is tarnished by having a scummy troll(YOU) invoke his name in a publication.

Not wanting to have to be kicked in the face by your rival and then have to continually hear about for the next 3 to 4 to 5 years would be a good indicator of the problem identified. Time will tell.

A couple of things that came into play first he is from the same High school as G A Mangus, which had to help SC. Second is I believe our coaches backed off him recently.

I have read numerous posts of yours, and, I must admit, have a difficult time following your train of thought, as with this post as well. I am a USC graduate and long time fan, with radtiger being a CU fan. Also, it appears you cannot post without calling someone unacceptable names. Possibly you should take some deep breaths and try again.

I will agree that some fans respond with blinders on and cannot see the whole picture. I prefer to call it like I see it and the real "truth" is that both schools are being taken to the bank......literally.....and laughing. In the words of P.T. Barnum "there's a gullible person born every minute". There is a whole lot more on this subject.

With your intellect, you probably do find it difficult to follow my train of thought.

Try this: bite me, troll.

Which end...they look the same.
