Clemson sophomore defensive tackle Carlos Watkins is hospitalized at Mission Hospital in Asheville, N.C., according to a report Sunday morning by WLOS-TV.
Initial reports are that his injuries are not considered serious, according to a note sent out last evening by Clemson's Tim Bourret.
Watkins was injured in a one-car accident in which another passenger, 21-year-old Dache Gossett, died. The accident occurred on Old Henrietta Road in Rutherford County, N.C.
According to highway patrol reports, the car, driven by 19-year-old Tajae McMullens, was headed west in a heavy downpour when the vehicle, a Dodge Durango, hydroplaned while attempting to turn left on Providence Road. The vehicle left the highway and hit a power pole, and Gossett was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
Watkins, who was in the front passenger seat, was trapped in the vehicle for more than an hour, according to the report.
