Clemson's Dabo Swinney
"Our defense just played great the entire game. It was just unfortunate that we couldn't get that last stop...I just can't say enough about our defense. Our offense has gotten a lot of headlines, but man, I love winning on defense. I'm just so proud of those guys. They played great all night...
"We are glad to get that one over with. We can’t load the busses up soon enough. That’s a good football team we just played. Hats off to NC State. They fought the entire four quarters. I am really impressed with some of the things they were doing that were creating problems for us. I can’t say enough about them, that team is going to win a bunch of games this year. We are very fortunate to hang in there and find a way to win...
“I am proud of our guys. The goal is to be 3-0 right now and that is where we are. We have nine more to go. Our formula doesn’t change. We will go back to work. It is good to get a good conference win, a good division win. I don’t think you learn about your team until you go on the road, especially a place like this, with a passionate fan base. I am really proud of our guys for competing for four quarters.”
On Martavis Bryant’s performance: “He had a rough first game. Nobody was panicking and he came back and had a great game against South Carolina State. Tonight he was awesome. He had one bobbled ball on the sideline, but instead of feeling the sideline with his drag technique he was looking up and down."
On the difference in the second half: "We played smarter. We executed better. We got the running game going. Tajh Boyd got going, and we made some plays in the passing game. The plays that were there in the first half that we didn't make, we made in the second half. We converted on our chances, and that was the difference in the game."
On the game's final minutes: "I was very disappointed down the stretch. We run out of bounds with a minute to go, and the game could have been over right there. We had a very poor personal foul (resulting in the ejection of offensive tackle Isaiah Battle). That's not Clemson. I'm disappointed in that."
On Vic Beasley's performance: "He was relentless. That's what we see in practice all the time. Vic is guy who's gotten better and better. He's grown up every year. He's off to a great start. He had some sacks and some tipped balls. He was just all over the field."
N.C. State coach Dave Doeren
“It was a hard fought game. I thought our players competed hard. I’m proud of the way they competed tonight. I’m disappointed on the amount of penalties we had, but that is something we will work on and improve. Clemson is a very good football team.”
On Bryan Underwood's run for a touchdown that was called back for stepping out of bounds: “That was right in front of me. He wasn’t out of bounds. Unfortunately, they blew it dead so we couldn’t review it. It cost us some points, but you have to move on from that.”
On play of running back Shadrach Thornton: “He was in on some plays. Obviously, the wheel-route was big. He was better tonight. He will continue to work his way into the lineup.”
