Five first-year freshmen played in Clemson's opener against Georgia, and perhaps three more could be on the field when the Tigers go against South Carolina State on Saturday.
Making their debuts on Saturday were defensive backs Korrin Wiggins and Cordrea Tankersley, wide receiver Mike Williams, linebacker Ben Boulware, and defensive end Shaq Lawson.
Both tight end Jordan Leggett and cornerback Mackensie Alexander should be ready to play on Saturday, along with defensive back Jayron Kearse.
Wiggins made his debut as the Tigers' top nickel back, and Dabo Swinney said he was impressed with his performance.
"He was just one of those guys in camp who was never overwhelmed mentally," Swinney said. "A lot of them do get overwhelmed mentally. It bogs them down and they can't compete physically. He's very mature and I think he gave us some good snaps last night. He's going to be a good player for us."
