Chad Morris among those mentioned as possible Grobe successor at Wake Forest

Possible candidates include head coaches Pete Lembo of Ball State and Matt Wells of Utah State

Clemson's Dabo Swinney, Chad Morris, and Jeff Scott during the third quarter at Maryland.

On Sunday, Dabo Swinney said he had received no contact from any school wanting to discuss a head coaching job with Chad Morris.

Then came Monday, and the unexpected resignation of long-time Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe.

On Tuesday, CBSSports' Bruce Feldman mentioned Morris as an attractive possibility for the Deacons.

Others mentioned in various reports include head coaches Pete Lembo of Ball State and Matt Wells of Utah, and coordinators Pat Narduzzi of Michigan State, Noel Mazzone of UCLA and Greg Roman of the San Francisco 49ers, along with former Southern California interim head coach Ed Orgeron.

There is no indication that there has been official, or unofficial, contact between Wake Forest and any of those mentioned at this time.

Morris, who was recently honored as the national assistant coach of the year, likely will mentioned for more than one job as the coaching carousel gains momentum in the next few weeks.

Morris interviewed with Texas Tech, N.C. State and South Florida last year. Last month, Morris apparently expressed no interest in discussing Connecticut's opening with school officials.

"Those are things as they arise that we always communicate on," Swinney said on Sunday. "I've had no communication with anyone about anything like that.

"If we have guys that have opportunities, if jobs come open, the biggest thing is communication and everyone being on the same page. We usually don't address that during the season."

He will leave Clemson and take a pay cut to go coach Wake Forest, a school that is real bad in football and draw about 30,000 on Saturday for their games. Yea, he's gone.

I don't think he'll go to Wake Forest, but the Deacs paid Grobe more than Clemson pays Swinney.

I have heard that John Mckissick in Summerville might be ready to retire. No, nevermind, it would be extremely difficult to fill those shoes.

We should all thank Morris for helping us beat up on cupcake ACC teams with losing records and FCS opponents (Citadel, S.C. State, etc.). Morris however has been ineffective against top teams, with the exception of the LSU game (which Boyd and Nuk singlehandedly won thanks to Les Miles' clock mismanagement and a 4th and forever completion). I wish him luck and just hope that the next O.C. will commit to the run and bring back smash mouth football to Clemson. Morris' patty cake offense is fun to watch until the wheels come off against S. Carolina and FSU with three and out drives lasting 39 seconds.

Dear Wake Forest,

I am writing to recommend Chad Morris for your opening at head football coach.
Chad enjoys being well-paid. I know you overpaid Jim Grobe for years. This would seem to be a good fit.

He is also a proven winner at schools of your size. Before coming to Clemson, he coached at a high school in Texas that was only a little bigger than Wake Forest.

I have friends with pickup trucks who would be willing to help with the move if moving expenses become an issue.

Thank you for your kind consideration.

Cordially yours,

Ron D. Ball

@Bigboots - awesome post. I wish Morris the best of luck and I am throwing a party when he leaves. R-U-N the ball…Repeat, R-U-N the ball...

Enough with the "I-like-smashmouth-football-because-it-makes-me-forget-about-the-inadequacy-in-my-pants" talk. You hype your QB as a potential Heisman to start the year and then whine that you don't run the ball enough. A good play-caller plays to his strengths and that's Tajh Boyd throwing the ball to Watkins and the other talented receivers. Morris is named national assistant of the year and you want him to leave? You guys really do deserve Dabo. Chad Morris will leave for a good job and you'll be left with a head coach who has never been a coordinator, has no scheme of his own, and prior to being promoted had never called a play on either side of the ball. You get pummeled in the Orange Bowl and Steele becomes the scapegoat. You get pummeled by FSU or lose to SC for the 5th straight time and it's Morris's fault. In case you idiots forgot, Morris hasn't been around for 5 straight losses to South Carolina. Dabo HAS! Dabo can beat the sisters-of-the-poor but when he plays a team with similar talent he gets outcoached badly. The head coach you should have is the OC you're trying to run out of town.

Ugh… you again - adolescent Gamecock troll. We can only hope that you will also go away when Morris leaves. You posted at 10:23PM, which is well past your bedtime. The future is bright for you, but as a 7th grader, you really should be focused on trying to get a solid 10 hours of sleep every night. I digress…
(1) There was a time when Clemson played smash mouth football. This happened well before you were still wearing short pants.

(2) Your comment about "inadequacy in one's pants"… - Childish and irrelevant.

(3) "Then whine that you don't run the ball enough"… - Every knowledgeable Clemson football fan has complained about the lack of a dedicated run game for years.

(4) "A good play-caller plays to his strengths; that's Tajh Boyd throwing the ball…" -- Idiot. He is a dual threat QB. Translation: Running QB.

(5) "Morris is named national assistant of the year; you want him to leave?"… - Yes. His record in big games is awful. You and your 7th grade buddies could coach Clemson's offense to victories against weak ACC and FSC teams.

(6) "You guys really do deserve Dabo." - We deserve Dabo as much as you deserve to get beaten up and have your bag lunch smashed by the 7th grade bully; you might be onto something here.

(7) "Morris hasn't been around for 5 straight losses to S.C." -Not sure where that comment is directed. While obviously not responsible for all of the last 5 straight losses to the Gamecocks, Morris' "O" has not fared well against S.C. or FSU.

(8) "Morris will leave for a good job and you'll be left with a H.C. who has never been a coordinator..." - Good riddance. I hope he lands a great job at a school that has no intention of committing to the run. Like your young feeble mind, Morris is a novice at this stuff. He will figure it out eventually. Re: Dabo, you are stating the obvious.

(9) "Pummeled in the Orange Bowl & Steele is the scapegoat." - Did you watch the game? You were in 5th grade, and it was a late start; you probably only caught the highlights as the game ended well past your bedtime. Steele was a disaster. Period.

(10) "Dabo gets outcoached badly." - You are stating the obvious; no argument there.

(11) "The H.C. you should have is the OC you're trying to run out of town." - Morris refuses to (a) focus on recruiting an O-line and (b) committing to the run. McDowell gashed the S.C. for 15 yds/carry in '12; Morris stopped feeding him the ball. McDowell gashed S.C. for 111 yards (7.9 yds/carry) in this year's game; Morris opted to pass. Epic coaching failure.

For a 12-year old, you have attempted to make some valid points in your ramble; you really should leave the football talk to the adults. If you must continue to post on the wrong message board, as a clear troll, try to incorporate data points in your future posts. Put your big boy pants on & try to make a logical argument based on empirical data. Have fun playing hopscotch at school today.

ESPN is now reporting that Petersen, the H.C. from Boise St., will be named the new head coach @ Washington. Now Washington clearly has a smart A.D., who knows how to do his job. Washington wanted a H.C. with a proven track record, as a H.C. Imagine that.

1) Yeah, it was decades ago. I don't live in the past. But you keep staring at your autographed Danny Ford picture while combing your mullet and rocking out to "Jesse's Girl" in the dark.

2) Just as irrelevant as the Clemson good ol' days you never stop going on about.

3) Do you have the personnel for a running game? Who is responsible for that? D-A-B-O? You have a QB who was hyped for the Heisman to start the year and you have some freak athletes at WR. There's not a James Davis or CJ Spiller on your roster. Your bread and butter is throwing the football.

4) Funny b/c they called quite a few designed QB runs during the FSU game and the broadcast team said several times that Clemson was trying to incorporate that into the offense to keep them honest. How'd that work out? Doors blown off and a tweaked ankle? He's a mobile QB but he's no dual-threat QB. No one fears Tajh Boyd's running ability. That's just not who he is.

5) The awful big-game record predates Morris. The common denominator is DABO. Clemson was "pulling-Clemsons" long before Morris showed up. The problem is Dabo can't match the football IQ of the top coaches in the country. Dabo isn't anywhere near the caliber of coach that Jimbo Fisher or Steve Spurrier is.

6) Comedy FAIL.

7) Morris' offense hasn't fared well b/c Dabo is the head coach. Remove Dabo and promote Morris. You instantly improve the IQ of your football coach by 40 points.

8) Good riddance? OK. That's smart. Say good riddance to the OC whose system smashed all your offensive records. Maybe The Great Dabo can call the plays when Morris leaves so we can see what an offensive wizard he is.

9) Was it Steele's fault that the Clemson players asked the WV players for mercy? Is that a scheme problem? Dabo's teams panic when they get hit in the mouth early. No resiliency. It happened in the Orange Bowl and it happened in Death Valley against FSU. And it will happen again if Ohio State is able to jump up by 2 TDs early in the 1st quarter.

10) Then why are you putting the blame on Morris? He's the best thing to happen to Clemson football since.... (you fill in the blank). Quite frankly, it would probably serve you guys very well for you to suffer a horrendous year and Dabo gets Chizik-ed for Chad Morris.

11) IT'S DABO'S JOB TO RECRUIT AN O-LINE!!! IT'S HIS PROGRAM!!! Really, what does Dabo actually DO as a head coach? Is he actually responsible for ANYTHING??? Everything is Steele's fault or Morris's fault. Once Venables has been here long enough then it will be his fault too.

You've got the wrong head coach. Chad Morris should be your coach.
