The Clemson track & field program has signed 15 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for its 2013 recruiting class - eight for the 10th-ranked women’s team and seven for the men’s program.

“We really addressed some areas of need with these two signing classes," said interim director of track and field Shawn Cobey. "On the women’s side, we lose a large senior class that has been vital to the success of our program the last four years. But we have signed some outstanding pieces to help cope with the graduation of those student-athletes."

Cobey said that versatility was a consistent them in assembling next year's class of newcomers.

"We not only signed some of the best jumpers in the country, but also ones who have the ability to help in the sprints and hurdles as well," he said. "When you add current freshman Mimi Land to these additions, our jumps crew looks to have a strong foundation in place.

"We signed some very solid young distance runners, and it was also good to add some vaulters and throwers on the men’s side. Those were two areas of need. Overall, we are very pleased with the results of the signing period.”
