In Dabo's Words: 'The first half was a thing of beauty'

'This was just a dominant performance, in all phases'

Clemson linebacker Jonathan Willard, Clay Swinney, and Dabo Swinney stand for the alma mater following a 42-13 win over Wake Forest at BB&T Field in Winston-Salem, N.C.

In Dabo's Words...

"What a great win. Thursday is the day we call 'Team Thursday' as part of our normal preparation. It was very fitting, because that's exactly what it was - a team win, in all three phases.

"These guys came to play, and it was good to see them go out and win on Thursday night. People kept talking about us being 1-9. Maybe now we can start a new streak. We talked about the hashes being the same and that it still took 10 yards to get a first down, and that none of that stuff matters. It's how you play the game, and this was just a dominant performance in all phases.

"Defensively, we got five sacks, and we had a lot of guys step up and make plays.

"Tajh (Boyd) was just incredible, and Sammy Watkins. Maybe everybody will stop asking me about Sammy now. He made a couple of plays and set a record.

"The offense scored points and the defense made plays - 17 or less, two weeks in a row. If you can do that, you'll win a lot of games. And we won the turnover margin again.

"This team just keeps improving. We've got 30 days left in this season, and everybody just has to stay focused and committed and pay the price it takes to be great, and just win each day.

"We'll enjoy Saturday, and then get back and start getting ready for Duke on Sunday. It's good to be 7-1, but we've still got a ways to go and a tough finish in front of us."

On Tajh Boyd hitting multiple receivers: "He really got into a rhythm, and he had a lot of guys make plays. And when you throw the ball like that, you have to give your OL credit, and the backs, tight ends and receivers. They all made a ton of plays.

"Coming out, it was bam-bam-bam-bam after that first possession or two. We got into a great rhythm with guys making plays. The first half was thing of beauty."

That pass to M. Bryant in the 3rd with two defenders right on top of him was a thing of beauty. It would have been a huge play even in the NFL. Perfectly thrown and Bryant was perfect in not letting the coverage get to him at all.

But for the love of God, we need some consistency out of this defense. Bragging on the offense so much really feels good. But each game reality strikes. Too much confusion in the secondary - how was Campanaro allowed to be wide open so much?? We are lucky the pressure on Price worked and that he was so inaccurate - not sure if that is normal or not. Every remaining game will be a nail biter where we have to hope the offense outscores the play of the defense.

Campanaro was wide open so much because Campanaro is one of the best WR in the ACC if not the best, before he broke his hand he was leading the ACC is some stats...
Price was inaccurate, possibly because of injuries to the WR, and no confidence in his OL because of injuries, he was rushing throws and it seemed that he and his WRs were not always on the same page.
Last week or D gave up 17, this week 13... it appears to me that they are improving as the season goes on, that speaks for quality of coaching and how hard they are working. I do not know if you noticed but Humphries played some DB last night as well. We are very thin at all DB positions another injury and Humphries may be playing as much DB as WR!
I am very proud of how our D played last night! Go Tigers!!

It was a great win last night. However, I don't want to be a "party pooper" but the lolilpop deep passes Boyd threw, the lack of run blocking by the OL and the confusion amongst the DB's won't cut it against the likes of the Gamecocks. Clemson must stay humble now and improve especially at run blocking and pass defense to beat better quality teams than Wake Forest.
