CHRISTIANSBURG, VA – Clemson’s Eric Bruck defended his conference title in the 50 freestyle to lead the Clemson men's swimming and diving team in the 2012 ACC Championships at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center on Thursday.

Currently, the Tigers are in sixth place with 123.5 points. North Carolina has the lead at the halfway point with 245.5 points

"It was a solid night for the Tigers," said coach Chris Ip. "Eric defended his title. Our 200 free relay set the tone for the evening. We are getting new Tigers into the evening finals."

Bruck captured his second consecutive crown in the 50 free with a time of 19.41 seconds, more than three-tenths of a second faster than his closest competitor. His preliminary time of 19.35 seconds strengthens his grip on the school's all-time record and puts him in a tie for third nationally this season.

A pair of other swimmers scored in the 50 free for Clemson, as well. Harry Foster joined the school's top ten list in sixth place and finished in a tie for 11th in the event with a time of 20.19 seconds, while Chris Reinke placed 15th in the event with his time of 20.36 seconds and established a new personal record with his preliminary swim of 20.09 seconds. Foster earned the Tigers 5.5 points, while Reinke amassed two points for his team.

Chris Dart finished in fifth place in the 200 IM with an NCAA-B qualifying time of 1:47.42, his best time of the season so far. His swim gave the Tigers 14 points.

The 200 freestyle relay squad of Bruck, Reinke, Seth Broster, and Dart finished in second place with a time of 1:18.13, scoring 34 points for the Tigers. Their swim ranks second in Clemson history in the event.

The Tigers will return to the pool on Friday, with preliminary heats beginning at 11 a.m. and finals starting at 7 p.m.

Among the contested events will be the 400 IM, the 100 fly, the 200 free, the 100 breast, the 100 back, and the 400 medley relay.
