Clemson Track & Field - Whitney Fountain

Clemson junior Whitney Fountain was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Indoor Track & Field Performer-of-the-Week on Tuesday. The native of Bronx, NY earned the accolade for the first time in her career after winning the pentathlon with a personal best over the weekend at the season-opening Orange & Purple Winter Classic. NC State high jumper Kris Kornegay-Gober claimed the first men’s honor of the 2012-13 season.

Fountain finished with the No. 3 point value in Clemson history, tallying 3,998 points to top the field of 11 athletes. She had personal bests in two of the five individual events – the high jump and shot put. After a solid 8.70 in the 60 hurdles, she moved to the high jump area, where she cleared a lifetime best 5’9.25”. That is also one of the top 10 marks in school history.

She then moved to the shot put, where she had a personal best mark of 36’8.5”. Fountain concluded the pentathlon with an 18’9” mark in the long jump and time of 2:27.39 in the 800 meters.
