Clemson women's soccer falls at Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Clemson women’s soccer team fell to #8 Virginia in an Atlantic Coast Conference road match on Sunday in Charlottesville. The game was the sixth of the last seven contests in which the Tigers faced an opponent ranked 11th or better nationally. The 3-0 loss drops Clemson’s record to 5-10 overall (0-8 ACC), while the Cavaliers improve to 11-3-2 overall and 5-2-1 in league play with the win.

“We lost to a very good Virginia team today,” said coach Eddie Radwanski. “I was a little bit happier with our commitment to play today as opposed to our previous game,” he added. “It was a fair result versus a very good team. We will continue to make steps forward and get ready for the next couple of games that are left.”

The game was scoreless for 36 minutes until Morgan Brian put a 12-yard shot in the net at the 36:32 mark to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead, which they would take into halftime. Gloria Douglas put Virginia’s second goal on the board in the 57th minute, and in the 71st minute, Olivia Brannon made it a 3-0 game in favor of the Cavaliers.

Sophomore keeper Lauren Arnold tallied six saves in the game for the Tigers, and Chantel Jones posted two for the Cavaliers. Clemson took four shots and had two corner kicks to Virginia’s 28 shots and nine corner kicks. There were six fouls called on the Tigers in the game and one on the Cavaliers.

The Tigers will play their fourth consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference road game against NC State on Thursday, October 20. The game between Clemson and the Wolfpack will begin at 7:00 PM at Dail Soccer Field in Raleigh, NC.
