Clemson women's soccer falls 3-0 at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, VA — The Clemson women’s soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Virginia Tech on the road in Blacksburg, VA on Thursday night. The loss brings the Tigers’ record to 5-9 overall (0-7 ACC), while the Hokies improve to 10-4-1 overall (2-3-1 ACC).

“Coming off such a good performance against North Carolina a week ago, I was disappointed with the team’s performance tonight,” said Coach Eddie Radwanski. “We lost to a team that wanted it more and had more energy than us. We took a step backward tonight. We gave up a goal in the opening minutes of play and then allowed two goals by leaving players unmarked on free kicks. We simply were not good enough tonight, which is a shame coming off a strong performance. We had an opportunity to win and just did not make the decision to do it.”

The Hokies scored two first-half goals, one in the third minute and one in the 41st minute, by Katie Cramp and Shannon Mayrose, respectively. Jazmine Reeves netted Virginia Tech’s third goal at the 66:54 mark. Kelly Conheeney assisted on all three Hokie goals in the contest.

Statistically for the game, Clemson took nine shots to Virginia Tech’s 13, and the Tigers had two corner kicks to the Hokies’ three. There were 12 fouls whistled on Clemson and seven on Virginia Tech. Sophomore Morgan Hert posted two saves and gave up two goals in 47 minutes and sophomore Lauren Arnold tallied two saves and allowed one goal in 43 minutes in goal for the Tigers. Hokie keeper Dayle Colpitts recorded five saves in the contest.

Clemson will remain in the state of Virginia for a Sunday matchup against the eighth-ranked University of Virginia. The game between the Tigers and the Cavaliers will kick off at 1:00 PM on October 16 in Charlottesville, VA.
