Clemson coach Brad Brownell and his coaching staff rounded out their 2011-12 recruiting class on Tuesday in advance of the beginning of the early signing period when Adonis Filer, a 6-3 guard from Hammond, IN, chose Clemson over Utah, Purdue, Tennessee and Baylor.
Filer, who was one of the Chicago area’s top high school players last season, is currently attending Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, MA.
He is ranked as the nation’s No. 24 point guard by Rivals and No. 28 at the position by Scout. Rivals ranks him as the nation’s No. 117 player overall.
The brother of Notre Dame senior linebacker Steve Filer (who was Illinois’ Gatorade high school player of the year and a Parade All-American in 2007), he had originally planned to wait until Thanksgiving to make his decision and then sign in April. He changed his mind after making visits to Clemson, Utah and Tennessee last month.
Filer is the fifth commitment for Clemson’s 2012 class, which will be able to sign during the week-long fall recruiting period than begins on Wednesday.
Also committed to the Tigers are Jordan Roper, a guard from Irmo, SC; Jaron Blossomgame, a wing from Alpharetta, GA; Landry Nnoko, a center from Cameroon and Montverde Academy in Florida; and Josh Smith, a forward from Charlotte, NC.
Brownell also signed a five-man class last recruiting cycle. Those players are now first-year freshmen with the Tigers, and include guards T.J. Sapp, Devin Coleman and Rod Hall, wing K.J. McDaniels and forward Bernard Sullivan.
