Clemson coach Brad Brownell made a move Friday night to strengthen the Tigers’ backcourt.
Rod Hall accepted his offer on the spot.
Hall, a 6-2, 215-pound guard from Laney High in Augusta, GA, became the fifth member of Clemson’s 2011 recruiting class when he committed to the Tigers on his official visit.
Hall, who was twice honored as Georgia player of the year by his hometown Augusta Chronicle, averaged 24.7 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals per game while leading his team to an unbeaten regular-season record.
Laney finished the season 29-2 after an upset loss to Buford in the state 2-A semifinals – a game in which Hall scored 20 points.
Hall also averaged better than 20 points per game as a junior, when he shot 248 free throws in 32 games and made 70 percent from the line. He is considered to be an excellent defender and penetrator with the ability to take the fall to the basket and draw fouls, and has also shown potential as a perimeter scorer.
He is rated as the nation’s No. 105 point guard by ESPN.
Hall chose Clemson over scholarship offers from Nebraska, Coastal Carolina and Delaware State, and was also getting strong interest from NC State and Georgia.
“It means a lot – it’s another step forward,” Hall told the Augusta Chronicle after committing to the Tigers during dinner with Brownell Friday night. “I just felt like it was a good place, and not too far from home.”
As a football wide receiver, Hall had 1,155 yards and a dozen touchdown catches last fall.
Hall completes a recruiting class that also includes guards T.J. Sapp and Devin Coleman, wing forward K.J. McDaniels and power forward Bernard Sullivan.
Final Home Game: Clemson 9, Furman 2
