A little breathing room meant valuable playing time for more second-tier Tigers against Wake Forest, as three backups were among four players who logged a season-high in snaps in Clemson's 30-10 victory over the Deacons.
The concussion that sidelined starting linebacker Brandon Maye put both Quandon Christian and Jonathan Willard in the starting lineup. Christian played a season-high 58 snaps, while Williard was in for 27 plays – his highest total since the season opener against North Texas.
Offensive lineman Phillip Price played for a season-high 22 snaps, Brandon Clear played a season-high 24 snaps at wide receiver, and at tight end, Brandon Ford matched his season-high with 16 snaps.
Injuries impacted participation at several positions, as defensive tackle Miguel Chavis, wide receiver Bryce McNeal, running back Andre Ellington and Maye were all sidelined. Terrance Ashe played just one snap at wide-out before suffering a season-ending injury, while Kourtnei Brown played two snaps after returning from injury.
Also back on the field was defensive back Carlton Lewis, who had missed the last three games after suffering a broken jaw.
On the defensive front, Tyler Shatley was in for 19 snaps – his most since the Presbyterian game; while at linebacker, Justin Parker played 17 snaps, which was one off his career-high and was his first non-special teams action since the Maryland game. Tight end Darrell Smith was in for 15 plays, while offensive tackle Brandon Thomas played 22 snaps – the most for both since the PC game.
Tajh Boyd played 23 snaps at quarterback, which was his most since he was in for 34 plays against the Blue Hose.
In all, 26 players saw action on offense, while 21 played on defense. Eight made special teams appearances.
